چکیده مقاله:

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is one of the most common non-structural spinal deformities in adolescents, becoming apparent around the time of puberty. In this regard, various exercise methods have been designed to preventing, managing and correcting AIS. Among them,Schroth exercise method has demonstrated promising results in improving AIS. However, there is still conflicting evidence of its effectiveness. Therefore, the aim of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of Schroth exercise method on correcting AIS.Searches were conducted between ۲۰۰۵ to December ۲۰۲۱ through PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, MEDLINE and Google Scholar databases using keywords related to the correction of AIS. Articles that used only Schroth exercises as an intervention were included in the inclusion criteria. The PEDro scale was used to evaluate the quality of articles.A total of ten articles with an average score of ۵.۸ on the PEDro scale were licensed to the study. The results of eight articles showed a significant positive effect of Schroth exercises on decreasing the Cobb angle (more than ۵°) using the radiography. In addition, only four papers reported a significant reduction in angle of trunk rotation (more than ۳°) using the scoliometer. There is moderate evidence to suggest that Schroth exercises have a positive effect on correcting AIS. Schroth exercises in combination with other exercise methods such as core stability and Pilates seem to lead to better results. Presenting high quality articles in the future is essential in order to provide a more definitive answer in evaluating the effectiveness of this type of exercise method.
