Effect of a Yoga exercises on the Fatigue and Balance of women with Multiple sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) which leads to myelin distraction and dysfunction in nerveconduction. MS is associated with erectile dysfunction, imbalance and fatigue. The use of yoga asanas is effective as a successful way to reduce fatigue, abnormally high muscle tension, muscle cramps, increase muscle relaxation and soft tissue tension, and thus indirectly improve muscle strength. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of yoga training on balance and fatigue in women with MS of Zahedan.Subjects and Based on a semi-experimental method,۲۰ women of Zahedan with MS (۲۵-۴۵ years old) with ۱ to ۶ Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) degree of Zahedan participated and randomly divided between two group, control, and experimental groups (n=۱۰). Experimental group performed ۶-week yoga exercises for ۴۵ to ۶۰ min ۳ times/week. Control group did not participate in any routine exercise. Before and after yoga exercises, Berg Balance Scale test was used to assessment of balance. In addition, fatigue severity scale were used to evaluate fatigue and disability respectively. Data were analyzed by T-Test and Covariance analysis (ANCOVA) method with SPSS۱۶ and OFFICE۲۰۱۶ soft wares at P<۰.۰۵.The result was showed that scores of balance and fatigue of post-test significantly was different with pre-test value (P<۰.۰۵). Also, a significant difference in average scores of balance and fatigue between control and experimental groups (P<۰.۰۵)In general, it can be concluded that yoga exercises can effectively improve balance and reduce fatigue in female patients with MS . Also, Yoga therapy can be mentioned as an effective method in managing MS symptoms.
