Infrastructure of Smart Port in Artificial Intelligence Era

Rapid innovation from Industry ۴.۰ is forcing ports to change the way they operate to cope with traffic flows. Such a transformation requires the development of smart port systems. Despite the growing interest in smart ports, the underlying framework, architecture, and potential impact on port productivity are not well documented in the maritime logistics literature. To help the port community better understand the smart port concept and develop smart ports within global supply chains, this paper summarizes the core concepts of smart ports and describes the underlying architecture. We design and suggest concrete milestones for smart port development.
